What
Is Girl Scouting?
It's All About Fun, Friends, and
Fantastic Opportunities
Girl
Scouting is for every girl, everywhere—where today's girls
can become tomorrow's leaders. Membership in Girl Scouts is
open to girls ages 5-17; women and men over 17 can join as
adult members.
Most
girls join a local troop or group for fun and friendship,
but they also find out about building character and
self-esteem and serving their communities—the core
qualities of Girl Scouting. In Girl Scouts, girls find a
safe place to grow and share new experiences, learn to
relate to others, develop values, and contribute to society.
What
Do Girl Scouts Do?
Girl
Scouting provides girls with opportunities to address the
important issues in their lives. Girl Scouts do almost
anything girls like to do! Girl Scout program activities are
open to all girls who are members of Girl Scouting, are
based on the Girl
Scout Promise and Law, and
the four Girl
Scout Program Goals, follow
health and safety standards, and are done with the support
of caring, trained adults.
Girls
ages 5-17 enjoy program experiences based on the progression
of activities available in Girl Scout handbooks, award
books, online at www.studio2b.org
and Girls
Only, and other Girl
Scout program resources.
Through
their Girl Scout program experiences, girls:
-
Gain
skills and confidence
-
Learn
to understand and respect others
-
Develop
the ability to make positive decisions based on their
values
-
Contribute
to their communities and become leaders
Based
on expert research and developed through years of
experience, the Girl Scout program provides engaging and
worthwhile activities that respond to the needs of today's
girls, with flexibility that respects their busy lives—and
yours!

The
Girl Scout Promise
On
my honor, I will try:
To serve God and my country,
To help people at all times,
And to live by the Girl Scout Law.
The
Girl Scout Law
I
will do my best to be:
honest and fair,
friendly and helpful,
considerate and caring,
courageous and strong,
and responsible for what I say and do,
and to
respect myself and others,
respect authority,
use resources wisely,
make the world a better place,
and be a sister to every Girl Scout.
(Troop addition): ... and every one!

Troop
Leaders and Advisors
Every Girl Scout belongs to a troop or group guided by
leaders and, for older girls, advisors who are taught by certified trainers. Leaders/Advisors
partner with girls, giving them opportunities to make
decisions about their activities and to learn leadership
skills within the group.
Uniforms
and Books
Girls
can wear the Girl Scout Pin, showing they belong to Girl
Scouts of the USA, and the World Trefoil Pin, signifying
their membership in a worldwide movement. Junior Girl Scouts
can purchase uniforms with either a sash or vest to display
Junior Girl Scout badges and other insignia. You can view
our Troop Handbook for more
information.
